Cuphead "You can't run away from God"
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
The Story:
Once upon a time. I don't have time. You have no time. We have no time.
The Background:
I hadn't played video games for several years. But experimentation brought me back. Sampling to create something new is part of every art form. Be it cinema (Tarantino), painting (Warhol) or music (MF Doom). The medium of video games is still very young, many new things are possible. There are an incredible amount of artists whose styles I really admire and have always wanted to see in a film or game. For a few friends in 2019, I started to sit down to make a game for the first time. Very personal thoughts and ideas came out of that. Probably some of them seem rather strange, but in any case they create different feelings and are interpreted differently - multifaceted, different and diverse, just like my friends. That's why a mixtape game is always a very personal gift to good friends. And an ode to the realisation of ideas that can be created together with very different people.
The Features of this speedrunning Mixtape Game:
- Run and gun game with surreal boss battles
- 15 visually different stages
- 3 Gaming modes (single player, local co-op and Game Journalist Mode)
- Playable with controllers (very recommended)
- Free Play
There is the GJ Mode selectable directly in the title menu, thanks to which the player has infinite HPs. This makes the player immortal and the game can be played through in one relaxed session.
Important note: the second download file is a version specifically for the XBox 360 controller and its D-pad.

witch key is the dash
Keyboard Controls:
Dash with Y
Shoot with X
Jump with the Spacebar
Left, Right and Duck with the Arrow Keys.
However, I highly recommend playing the game with a gamepad.
come on this is not even the OG game. Plus I want a mobile version. on all devices also, add a thumbstick
why
nuff said
Have you played through it?
yes i have
but i just want to ask why
And why?
what the hell is Garfield doing in this game
Garfield is a timeless icon. He should appear more often in contemporary films and video games as a surprise guest.
You're an inspiration man.
You inspired me to make my own surreal fangame thing
It's called MANSNOG
Thanks for your compliment.
And sharing your Game.
Let's push it to the limit and more.
I'm starting to work on my game, you've inspired me to make one, so as cuphead so I made a game called Bunmuffin
It already sounds funny. Maybe you can show some screenshots and a video on your game's page?
How did you make the cuphead character and coding for the character with the animation, you inspire me to make a game but cant seem to fix my character.
Search the internet for sprite sheets and check out the very good official Gdevelop tutorials. A tip for your game: experiment with all of your ideas.
What game engine was this made with?
Gdevelop.
really cool
does the xbox 360 controller version still support pc control? i tend to swap between the two
The xbox 360 controller version can also be played with the PC keyboard. But I would always recommend to play with a controller.
ok, thank you!
What Even Is The Game?
I Haven't Played It Yet, I Might, I Wonder If There Is Going To Be Death Quotes
It's just a speedrun game. It's up to your imagination what stories you see in it. Only if you have time, of course.
What the hell is everything from? that skull with the dollar sign fascinates me.
I can't believe I'm saying that.
cool how did you make this
I often had to imagine how Cuphead would probably move in today's (digital) world, where everything is flooded with advertising, information maximised by time pressure.
Is it possible to save game? or just pause it?
the game is great but if I have to keep it open with that music to not lose progress I'm gonne get crazy
Thanks for the important hint. Originally I wanted to give the game an arcade-like flair, where it is not possible to save or pause. Should the game become more widespread with the wish for a save function, I will include it. Btw. what do you think of the GJ Mode of the game where the player has infinite HPs?
I just tried the single player mode, didn't knew what GJ mode was, but I would try and find out.
I would like the posibility of pausing or selecting levels, but the game is cool anyways, feels like a LSD expansion of cuphead
I can't reduce the volume of the music either
In Windows, you can click the sound icon in the Windows Notification Area of the Taskbar that looks like a speaker. In the small window that appears, drag the volume down to turn down the sound.
But that would reduce the volume of everything of the PC wouldn't, it?
I wanted to play while listen twitch streams or chit chat on discord
Sorry, unfortunately in the current version only the sound can be changed by the method mentioned above.
nice game! just one bit of criticism, i think the tutorial is too difficult to play. can you add a skip tutorial button to the game? anyways, good luck on any other games you create!
Thank you for your criticism. I like the level-skip idea. Maybe a warp zone should be hidden in each stage?! However, I didn't want to make my Cuphead Fangame significantly easier than the original. If the difficulty is too high for the game, I recommend GJ Mode, where the player has infinite HPs.
this game looks cool but i physically am unable to play this with keyboard there is no way i can press y to dash while my left hand is pressing shift and x and my left hand is pressing left and right, please put the jump button within reach of either the left or right hand
Thank you for playing this game. During testing, I was able to play through it with this keyboard layout without any problems:
Dash with Y
Shoot with X
Jump with the Spacebar
Left, Right and Duck with the Arrow Keys.
However, I highly recommend playing the game with a gamepad.
it looks cool the game, but i have tried with an xbox controller and i cannot seem to work
Which version did you download? The first version lets you control the game with the XBox360 controller using only the analog stick. The second version of the game lets you control it with the D-pad on the PC. With a generic controller, the game can be controlled by analog stick and D-pad.
Not sure if this would help in any way but in the original cuphead i use the following:
z to jump
x to shoot
c for Ex Move
a for lock
left shift for dash
right shift for switch weapon
and arrow keys to move/aim
Let me know how this layout works for you.
